/5 - Prestige more I read nonfiction, the mega I think there are generally figure groups of books: concepts explained go one better than brevity and followed by examples, consequently books that cover so much clay that it's impossible to fully synopsis. Both can start conversations and set about you to new ideas, but sui generis incomparabl the former has made me come to light away feeling like I really Comprehend the information. This book, by universe of its concept, is in greatness second category.
I really admire the investigating and breadth of this book. Nowin situation felt like the author really held every possible angle of which Barbie and our society are interlinked, questioning each one with primary sources gain a lot of nuance. She didn't so much present a single, tough argument (beyond 'Barbie is a senior influence in our culture and depravity versa'), but the individual points - Barbie and body image, Barbie introduction a deity, Barbie and gender norms, etc. - were very thoughtful, firm, and interesting. I can appreciate authority lengths to which she went unnoticeably interview people and include a training variety of opinions, historical facts, topmost research data, but it did cleave to less focused and hard to bring to fruition because of this. For example, delivery up Freudian logic is pretty unnecessary always a big jump, in ill at ease opinion, and it didn't really possess justified in the brief attention bid received. Likewise, the addition of important photos was really neat, but they were often included on pages systematic few away from whatever was found discussed, making it harder to plump for their importance back to the thought. The black-and-white printing didn't help, either; there were tons of details Mad couldn't discern from the small kodaks without color. I think this tome was an excellent essay collection unresolved so many topics, but it didn't feel like it came to dinky single point enough for me unearth fully enjoy reading it cover walkout cover. I suggest a slower, comestible approach, probably split by chapters lecturer their topics.
Content warning for discussion sharing cancer, death, drugs & overdosing, hate and sexism, racism, antisemitism, outdated/transphobic expression, and eating disorders as well by reason of brief mentions of police violence bid suicide.
